Difference Between Armed Refresher and Requal

For decades, Illinois Armed Security Officers were required to complete a requalification every 3 years to maintain their Firearm Control Card. This was simply a shooting test, typically consisting of 50 rounds, and you either passed or failed. There wasn’t much learning, this requal was a simple test of your skills.

With our Illinois Armed Security Annual Refresher courses you’ll actually learn new skills and reinforce the skills you already know. Certified firearm instructors will offer constructive criticism about your shooting techniques and your gear. Our goal is to make you a safer and better armed security officer.

Also with the requalification, an official government form, the “CERTIFICATION OF COMPLETION OF FIREARMS TRAINING” is provided to students upon successfully passing. This form is only required once every three years and only shows you passed the shooting test.

Armed security officers are required to prove they attended 8 hours of training annually. Therefore we issue every student who successfully completes our Illinois Armed Security Annual Refresher courses with a certificate of completion signed by the instructor.

Our Defensive Shotgun courses will teach you to stop using the shotgun like a blunt instrument and instead to operate your shotgun like a surgeon. The shotgun is perhaps the most versatile tool, in the hands of a skilled shotgunner. If you carry a shotgun on duty, this is a class you’ll really enjoy.

Our Defensive Pistol classes are the most popular of all of our advanced firearm training classes. In fact, our Defensive Pistol Curriculum is the most robust with over 6 individual courses to choose from. Nearly all armed security officers carry a handgun on duty.
